The ultimate do's and don'ts for keeping your stone surfaces looking brand new.
By Tudor Granite, Worktop Specialist | Updated: October 2025
Proper care is essential for the longevity of your new quartz or granite worktop. In short, use gentle, pH-neutral cleaners for daily wiping, and avoid harsh, abrasive, or acidic chemicals at all costs. This guide will provide everything you need to know to keep your worktop looking brand new for years to come.
In This Care Guide:
Daily Cleaning: The Simple Do's and Don'ts
For both granite and quartz, daily cleaning is simple. Use a soft cloth with warm water and a small amount of mild, pH-neutral soap (like standard washing-up liquid). Wipe the surface and then dry it with a clean microfibre cloth to prevent water spots. The most important thing is to avoid harsh chemicals. We've created a detailed list of 5 cleaners to avoid on your quartz worktop.
Tackling Tough Stains (Safely)
Accidents happen. For stubborn stains like dried-on food, wine, or even turmeric, it's important to use the right technique. For quartz, a non-abrasive sponge and a specialist quartz cleaner (or a paste of baking soda and water) can work wonders. We have a full, step-by-step guide on how to safely remove tough stains from white quartz.
An Expert's Opinion: The Most Common Mistake We See
"The most common issue we're called out to fix is damage from using the wrong cleaning product. People often reach for a generic kitchen spray that contains bleach or other harsh chemicals, which can dull the surface of quartz or strip the sealant from granite. Always check the label."
Your Care Questions Answered: FAQ
Do I need to reseal my granite worktop?
Yes, periodically. We seal all our granite installations, but this wears off over time. You can easily check if it needs resealing with a simple water test. Find out how in our guide to resealing granite.
What if I chip my worktop?
Small chips on edges can often be professionally repaired using a colour-matched resin. The repair can be almost invisible. Learn more in our guide to repairing chips.
