How to Safely Remove Tough Stains (Wine, Turmeric) from a White Quartz Worktop

A stubborn stain on your pristine white quartz can be frightening, but don't panic! This is a detailed follow-up to our main worktop care guide, showing you how to tackle tough stains safely.

The Gentle Method: A Baking Soda Paste

This should always be your first port of call before trying anything stronger. Never use abrasive scourers.

  1. Create a Paste: Mix baking soda with a small amount of water to create a thick paste.
  2. Apply to the Stain: Gently apply the paste to the stained area. Do not rub it in, as baking soda can be mildly abrasive.
  3. Cover and Wait: Cover the paste with cling film to keep it moist and leave it for several hours, or even overnight.
  4. Wipe Away: Gently wipe away the paste and the stain with a soft, damp cloth.

The Next Step: Isopropyl Alcohol

If the baking soda paste doesn't work, you can try using a cloth dampened with isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Gently blot the stain, then rinse the area thoroughly with water.

For Extreme Cases: Specialist Cleaners

There are specialist quartz cleaning products like Bar Keepers Friend (the liquid version, not the powder) that can be effective. Always test it on an inconspicuous area first and follow the manufacturer's instructions precisely. Remember to avoid any cleaners containing bleach, as detailed in our guide on what to avoid using on quartz.
